What Is Time Line Therapy? A Plain-English Guide

By Natalia Salam, Clinical Psychologist · 2026-10-23

Time Line Therapy is a technique that comes from the world of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Natalia is certified as a Time Line Therapy Practitioner and Master Practitioner.

The basic idea

It works with the way we store memories and emotions in relation to time. In a guided session, you are helped to revisit old events from a calm distance and let go of the strong feelings and beliefs attached to them.

What a session feels like

Your practitioner asks questions while you stay relaxed and in control. You are not asked to relive painful moments in detail. Sessions are paced to what feels manageable for you.

What a client told us

A client who is also a coach wrote: "She has a remarkable ability to guide the unconscious mind with precision and care, asking thoughtful, insightful questions that consistently led me toward greater clarity and self-awareness." Experiences vary from person to person.

A balanced view

Time Line Therapy is a coaching approach, and the research behind NLP-based methods is more limited than for CBT. For that reason, Natalia combines it with evidence-based approaches such as CBT, using whichever tool fits your situation.

Who it may suit

People who feel held back by old beliefs or patterns, such as fear of being alone, limiting beliefs or recurring emotional reactions, and who want a gentle, structured way to work on them. If you are dealing with a serious mental health condition, a clinical assessment comes first.
